Terms of Service
1.Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of the Anomalia mobile application (the “Service”), operated by Anomalia (the “Operator”, “we”, “us”, “our”), an individual entrepreneur based in Spain.
By installing, signing in to, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Service, and uninstall it from any device on which it is installed.
If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation, in which case “you” refers to that organisation.
2.Service description
Anomalia delivers one short, PG-rated mystery each day, written in plain language and designed to be read in approximately five minutes.
Each mystery is generated by a large language model, verified by a second language-model pass, and lightly reviewed by a human editor before publication. The content is intended for entertainment, curiosity, and general knowledge. It is not journalism, not academic research, and not professional advice of any kind.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, pause, or discontinue any feature at any time, with reasonable notice where practical. If a change materially affects you, we will try to give at least 30 days’ notice by in-app message or push notification.
Free tier: the daily mystery is always free for all signed-in users. The archive of past mysteries and the 7-day category rotation are reserved for paying subscribers.
3.Account registration
To use Anomalia you must sign in with a Google account. By doing so, you confirm that:
- You are at least 13 years old (see Section 6 of our Privacy Policy on children’s privacy).
- You are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law.
- The information Google provides to us (your email and, if you allow it, your name and profile photo) is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- You will keep your Google account secure and notify us promptly at hello@anomalia.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. We are not responsible for losses caused by unauthorised account use that you could reasonably have prevented.
One account per person. We may close duplicate or shared accounts at our discretion.
4.Subscriptions and billing
The following subscription terms apply to the in-app subscription offered through Google Play.
4.1 Plans and price
As of 4 June 2026, Anomalia offers two auto-renewing subscription plans:
- Monthly: €0.99 per month.
- Annual: €9.99 per year (a 16% discount versus the monthly plan).
Prices are inclusive of any applicable VAT. Local sales tax, GST, or equivalent indirect taxes are collected and remitted by Google on our behalf, in accordance with Google Play’s billing policies.
4.2 Free trial
New subscribers are offered a 3-day free trial. The trial unlocks the full archive and category rotation immediately. You will not be charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to the plan you selected at sign-up, and Google will charge your payment method on file.
You are eligible for a free trial only once per Google account. If you have previously trialled or subscribed to Anomalia, the trial option will not be available.
4.3 Auto-renewal
Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. By starting a subscription, you authorise Google to charge your payment method for the recurring fee at the then-current price.
Each renewal is a new transaction. Your cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to subscriber features until that date.
4.4 Cancellation
You can cancel at any time. Cancellation must be performed through Google Play, because Google is the merchant of record:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Select the Anomalia subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. If you have trouble with the steps above, contact hello@anomalia.app and we will help, but please note that only Google can definitively stop a recurring charge.
4.5 Refunds
Refunds are governed by Google Play’s refund policy. Google may issue a refund within 48 hours of a purchase at the user’s request, and at its discretion after that period. We do not have the ability to force a refund where Google has denied one.
As a matter of goodwill, and at our sole discretion, we may offer a refund within 14 days of an initial subscription charge, less any promotional or trial discount, where:
- the request is made by email to hello@anomalia.app from the email address linked to the account, and
- the account has not previously received a goodwill refund.
Refunds will be credited to the original payment method via Google. This goodwill policy does not affect any statutory right of withdrawal you may have under EU consumer law (for example, the 14-day right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU for digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, where applicable and not yet consumed).
4.6 Price changes
We may change subscription prices for new subscribers at any time. For existing subscribers, we will give at least 30 days’ notice of a price change by in-app message and email. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before the change takes effect; your continued subscription after the change constitutes acceptance.
4.7 Taxes
You are responsible for any taxes applicable to your subscription, except for taxes that Google is required to collect and remit on our behalf under Google Play’s policies. We do not collect any payment information directly, and we never have access to your payment card number.
5.License to use
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and your payment of any applicable subscription fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to install and use the Anomalia mobile application on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.
You may not:
- Sublicense, resell, lease, rent, lend, or otherwise commercially exploit the Service.
- Distribute the app through any channel other than the Google Play Store.
- Modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly prohibits such restrictions.
- Use the Service to build a competing product or service.
This license terminates automatically if you breach these Terms, if your subscription ends and you do not resubscribe within a reasonable time, or if we terminate the Service.
6.User content
Anomalia is a read-only app. You do not post, upload, publish, or transmit content to other users. The information associated with your use — your reading history, your streak, your subscription record — remains yours.
The mystery text, illustrations, photographs, designs, code, branding, and all other materials made available through the Service (collectively, the “Anomalia Content”) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
You may quote brief excerpts from Anomalia Content (up to 75 words per mystery) for non-commercial purposes such as sharing with friends, on social media, or in a review, provided that you credit “Anomalia” and link back to the source. You may not reproduce full mysteries, scrape the archive, or build a dataset from the Service.
If you provide feedback or suggestions, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose, including improving the Service, without any obligation to you.
7.Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
- Exploit, harm, or attempt to exploit or harm minors, including by exposing them to inappropriate content or personal information.
- Send, knowingly receive, upload, download, use, or re-use any material that is defamatory, obscene, offensive, hateful, or inflammatory.
- Transmit any unsolicited or unauthorised advertising, promotional material, spam, chain letters, or similar.
- Knowingly transmit any malware, virus, worm, logic bomb, or other harmful material.
- Use any robot, spider, scraper, or other automated means to access the Service or extract data, except for legitimate search engine indexing.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or any connected network.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other accounts, computer systems, or networks connected to the Service.
- Abuse the free trial (for example, by creating multiple accounts to extend a trial period).
- Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with security-related features of the Service.
Breach of this section is grounds for immediate suspension or termination of your account, with no refund.
8.Intellectual property
The Anomalia name, logo, wordmark, app icon, and trade dress are our trademarks. You may not use them without our prior written permission, except as permitted by applicable law (for example, to refer to the Service in a review).
All other trademarks appearing in the Service (including Google Play, Google, Android, Firebase, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry, and Unsplash) are the property of their respective owners.
Editorial images are provided by Unsplash under the Unsplash License. We are grateful to the photographers and we list attributions in the in-app credits screen. If you believe an image is used in error, email hello@anomalia.app and we will remove it within 7 days.
Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of our intellectual property to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
9.Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and the Anomalia Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranty of any kind.
We expressly disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including:
- Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components.
- Warranties as to the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the Anomalia Content.
The mysteries we publish are real-world cases that we attempt to verify, but accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Some details may be uncertain, disputed, or evolve over time as historical research progresses. The Anomalia Content is for general informational and entertainment purposes only. It does not constitute professional advice of any kind — medical, legal, financial, or otherwise — and should not be relied upon as such.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, the exclusions above apply to the maximum extent permitted, and the remainder of these Terms remains in force.
10.Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we, our licensors, or our service providers be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
- Any loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, anticipated savings, data, or use.
- Any damages resulting from your access to or inability to access the Service.
- Any damages resulting from any conduct or content of any third party on or through the Service.
- Any unauthorised access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content.
In jurisdictions that allow a limitation of liability, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to your use of the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the liability, or (b) €10.00.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including (in the EU and UK) liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, and statutory rights of consumers.
11.Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your access to or use of the Service.
- Your violation of these Terms.
- Your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual property or privacy rights.
- Any claim that your use of the Service has caused damage to a third party.
This obligation survives termination of these Terms.
12.Termination
12.1 By you
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app. To delete your account and the personal data associated with it, go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account in the app, or email hello@anomalia.app. Account deletion does not automatically cancel an active subscription; cancel separately through Google Play to avoid future charges.
12.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Without limiting the foregoing, we will terminate accounts of users we discover to be under 13, and we may terminate accounts that breach these Terms or pose a security risk. Where reasonable, we will give advance notice and an opportunity to cure.
If your subscription is active at termination, we will not refund prepaid fees except as required by law or our goodwill refund policy in Section 4.5.
12.3 Effect of termination
On termination, the license in Section 5 ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Section 8 Intellectual property, Section 9 Disclaimers, Section 10 Limitation of liability, Section 11 Indemnification, Section 13 Governing law, and Section 14 Dispute resolution) will survive.
13.Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Spain, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
We chose Spain as the governing law because the Operator is established in Spain and the European Union’s consumer-protection framework (including the Unfair Contract Terms Directive 93/13/EEC and the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU) provides strong, well-understood protections that apply to all consumers in the EU, regardless of where they live. Spanish law will apply to non-consumer contracts.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence also apply to you and prevail over any conflicting term in these Terms, to the extent of the conflict.
14.Dispute resolution
14.1 Informal resolution first
If you have a concern, please email hello@anomalia.app first. We will try to resolve it informally within 30 days. Most concerns are resolved this way.
14.2 EU online dispute resolution
If you are a consumer in the European Union and we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you may use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. Participation is voluntary on our part, but we will consider any request submitted through it in good faith.
14.3 Jurisdiction
Subject to your mandatory consumer rights and the informal resolution step above, the courts of Madrid, Spain will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, except that we may bring an action against you for non-payment in the courts of your country of residence.
Nothing in this section limits your right to bring an action in the courts of your country of residence if you are a consumer.
15.Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes (for example, a change in pricing structure, a new restriction, or a change in dispute resolution), we will give at least 30 days’ notice by in-app message and, where required, by email to the address on your account.
The updated Terms will become effective on the date stated in the notice. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may cancel your subscription and delete your account before the effective date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except where additional consent is required by law.
Non-material changes (clarifications, typo corrections, contact-information updates) take effect when posted.
