Anomalies, every morning

Terms of Service

Effective date: 29 July 2026 · Version 1.2

1.Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of Anomalia’s mobile application and web reader (the “Service”), operated by Juan Andres Garcia Romero, trading as Anomalia (the “Operator”, “we”, “us”, “our”), an individual entrepreneur established in Spain.

By installing, signing in to, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Service, and uninstall the mobile application from any device on which it is installed.

If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation, in which case “you” refers to that organisation.

2.Service description

Anomalia delivers one short, PG-rated mystery each day, written in plain language and designed to be read in approximately five minutes.

Mysteries may be researched or drafted with the assistance of language-model tools. Every mystery is checked against sources, passes a separate verification step, and is reviewed by a human editor before publication. The content is intended for entertainment, curiosity, and general knowledge. It is not journalism, not academic research, and not professional advice of any kind.

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, pause, or discontinue any feature at any time, with reasonable notice where practical. If a change materially affects you, we will try to give at least 30 days’ notice by in-app message or push notification.

Free access: the first five mysteries you read on a new account are free, and they remain readable to you afterwards. The window is counted in mysteries read, not in calendar days. Once it is used up, the day’s mystery and the full archive of past mysteries are reserved for paying subscribers.

3.Account registration

You may use the limited anonymous preview without a Google account. A Google account is required to create a full account, keep reading history, use the archive, or subscribe. By signing in, you confirm that:

You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. We are not responsible for losses caused by unauthorised account use that you could reasonably have prevented.

One account per person. We may close duplicate or shared accounts at our discretion.

4.Subscriptions and billing

The following subscription terms apply to subscriptions purchased through Google Play and, where offered, the Anomalia web reader.

4.1 Plans and price

As of 29 July 2026, Anomalia offers the following auto-renewing plans:

The final price, including any applicable VAT, sales tax, GST, or equivalent indirect taxes, is displayed before you confirm payment and may vary by country and purchase channel. Google processes Google Play purchases. Paddle acts as merchant of record for web purchases, processes payment, collects and remits applicable indirect taxes, and provides purchase receipts.

4.2 Free window

Anomalia is not sold as a free trial. Instead, a new account comes with a free window of the first 5 mysteries you read: those mysteries remain readable to you afterwards at no cost. The window is counted in mysteries read, not in calendar days — it does not expire with time, and a day on which you do not read costs you nothing. The archive of earlier mysteries is available to subscribers only, from the start. Once the free window is used up, the day’s mystery is also subscriber-only. There is no automatic charge: to keep reading beyond your free window you must actively start a subscription. No payment method is required to use the free window. The size of the free window is fixed for your account when the account is created; if we change it for new accounts, the window already assigned to yours does not change.

4.3 Auto-renewal

Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. By starting a subscription, you authorise the payment provider shown at checkout (Google or Paddle) to charge your payment method for the recurring fee at the then-current price.

Each renewal is a new transaction. Your cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to subscriber features until that date.

4.4 Cancellation

You can cancel at any time. Google Play purchases must be cancelled through Google Play. Web purchases must be managed through the secure Paddle customer portal linked from your Anomalia profile or Paddle’s purchase emails, because Paddle is the merchant of record for those purchases.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  3. Select the Anomalia subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription.

Uninstalling the app or deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. If you have trouble, contact hello@anomalia.app; the relevant payment provider ultimately controls recurring charges.

4.5 Refunds

Refunds are governed by the policy of the payment provider used for the purchase. Google Play handles Google Play refunds. Paddle handles refunds for web purchases as merchant of record. Contact the relevant provider or hello@anomalia.app for help identifying the right route.

As a matter of goodwill, and at our sole discretion, we may offer a refund within 14 days of an initial subscription charge, less any promotional discount, where:

Refunds are credited to the original payment method by the relevant payment provider. For web purchases, where applicable law allows it, the checkout asks you to expressly request immediate access to digital content and acknowledge that this may cause you to lose the statutory right of withdrawal once performance begins. This does not affect rights that cannot legally be waived.

4.6 Price changes

We may change subscription prices for new subscribers at any time. For existing subscribers, we will give at least 30 days’ notice of a price change by in-app message and email. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before the change takes effect; your continued subscription after the change constitutes acceptance.

4.7 Taxes

You are responsible for any taxes applicable to your subscription, except for taxes that Google or Paddle is required to collect and remit under its applicable policies. We do not collect payment card information directly and never have access to your full card number.

5.License to use

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and your payment of any applicable subscription fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Service, including installing the Anomalia mobile application on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.

You may not:

This license terminates automatically if you breach these Terms or if we terminate the Service. Ending a subscription does not terminate your account or your right to use content that remains available under the free tier; subscriber-only access ends when the paid period expires.

6.User content

Anomalia is a read-only Service. You do not post, upload, publish, or transmit content to other users. The information associated with your use — your reading history, your streak, your subscription record — remains yours.

The mystery text, illustrations, photographs, designs, code, branding, and all other materials made available through the Service (collectively, the “Anomalia Content”) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

You may quote brief excerpts from Anomalia Content (up to 75 words per mystery) for non-commercial purposes such as sharing with friends, on social media, or in a review, provided that you credit “Anomalia” and link back to the source. You may not reproduce full mysteries, scrape the archive, or build a dataset from the Service.

If you provide feedback or suggestions, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose, including improving the Service, without any obligation to you.

7.Prohibited uses

You agree not to:

Breach of this section is grounds for immediate suspension or termination of your account, with no refund.

8.Intellectual property

The Anomalia name, logo, wordmark, app icon, and trade dress are our trademarks. You may not use them without our prior written permission, except as permitted by applicable law (for example, to refer to the Service in a review).

All other trademarks appearing in the Service (including Google Play, Google, Android, Firebase, RevenueCat, Paddle, and Unsplash) are the property of their respective owners.

Editorial images may be original AI-generated illustrations or licensed third-party images, including images provided by Unsplash under the Unsplash License. Where attribution is required, it appears with the mystery. If you believe an image is used in error, email hello@anomalia.app and we will investigate promptly.

Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of our intellectual property to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

9.Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and the Anomalia Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranty of any kind.

We expressly disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including:

The mysteries we publish are real-world cases that we attempt to verify, but accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Some details may be uncertain, disputed, or evolve over time as historical research progresses. The Anomalia Content is for general informational and entertainment purposes only. It does not constitute professional advice of any kind — medical, legal, financial, or otherwise — and should not be relied upon as such.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, the exclusions above apply to the maximum extent permitted, and the remainder of these Terms remains in force.

10.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we, our licensors, or our service providers be liable for:

In jurisdictions that allow a limitation of liability, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to your use of the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the liability, or (b) €10.00.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including (in the EU and UK) liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, and statutory rights of consumers.

11.Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

This obligation survives termination of these Terms.

12.Termination

12.1 By you

You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and the personal data associated with it, use the deletion control in your Anomalia profile or email hello@anomalia.app. Account deletion does not automatically cancel an active subscription; cancel separately through Google Play or the Paddle customer portal, according to the purchase channel, to avoid future charges.

12.2 By us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Without limiting the foregoing, we will terminate accounts of users we discover to be under 13, and we may terminate accounts that breach these Terms or pose a security risk. Where reasonable, we will give advance notice and an opportunity to cure.

If your subscription is active at termination, we will not refund prepaid fees except as required by law or our goodwill refund policy in Section 4.5.

12.3 Effect of termination

On termination, the license in Section 5 ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Section 8 Intellectual property, Section 9 Disclaimers, Section 10 Limitation of liability, Section 11 Indemnification, Section 13 Governing law, and Section 14 Dispute resolution) will survive.

13.Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Spain, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

We chose Spain as the governing law because the Operator is established in Spain and the European Union’s consumer-protection framework (including the Unfair Contract Terms Directive 93/13/EEC and the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU) provides strong, well-understood protections that apply to all consumers in the EU, regardless of where they live. Spanish law will apply to non-consumer contracts.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence also apply to you and prevail over any conflicting term in these Terms, to the extent of the conflict.

14.Dispute resolution

14.1 Informal resolution first

If you have a concern, please email hello@anomalia.app first. We will try to resolve it informally within 30 days. Most concerns are resolved this way.

14.2 Consumer dispute resolution

If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you may use any consumer dispute-resolution mechanism available under the law of your country. We are not currently committed to participating before a specific alternative dispute-resolution entity unless applicable law requires it.

14.3 Jurisdiction

Disputes will be heard by the courts that have jurisdiction under applicable law. If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms limits your right to bring an action in the courts of your country or place of residence where mandatory consumer law permits it.

15.Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes (for example, a change in pricing structure, a new restriction, or a change in dispute resolution), we will give at least 30 days’ notice through the Service and, where required, by email to the address on your account.

The updated Terms will become effective on the date stated in the notice. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may cancel your subscription and delete your account before the effective date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except where additional consent is required by law.

Non-material changes (clarifications, typo corrections, contact-information updates) take effect when posted.

17.Effective date

These Terms of Service are effective as of 29 July 2026. Version 1.2 adds Paddle as merchant of record for web purchases and explains web cancellation, refunds, digital-content withdrawal and account deletion. Version 1.1 changed how free access is measured: the free window is now the first 5 mysteries you read, counted in mysteries rather than in calendar days.

Plain-English summary (not part of the Terms, just a quick read): Anomalia is a daily mystery reader. Your first five mysteries are free (you keep them, and days you do not read cost you nothing); after that, reading continues with a subscription, from €0.99 a month or €9.49 a year. Google bills Play purchases and Paddle bills web purchases; your final local price, including taxes, is shown before payment. Cancel through the provider you used. We do not sell your data or show ads. If something is wrong, email hello@anomalia.app.
